03 — Overview

A rare early Edo example of tsujigahana dyeing, designated an Important Cultural Property in 1965 together with its accompanying sash. Tradition holds that the kyōgen actor Sagi Niemon received it from Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1610, though its design and tailoring have led some to question this. Tokyo National Museum.
